Key Facts

  • Aptos said its opt-in Encrypted Mempool is live on mainnet, letting users hide a pending transaction's details until its block is finalized.

  • Petra's browser extension is the first wallet to support the feature at signing, Aptos Labs said on Tuesday.

  • Aptos said Confidential APT, which encrypts balances and transfer amounts while leaving addresses visible, is also live on mainnet.

Aptos (APT) has made an opt-in Encrypted Mempool live on its mainnet, letting users encrypt pending transactions until their block is finalized, which the network said lowers the risk of MEV attacks.
The feature targets front-running and similar attacks, in which bots or block producers read pending trades in the mempool and place their own orders around them to capture maximal extractable value, or MEV.
"Three layers of confidentiality. All live on Aptos mainnet," Aptos wrote on X late Monday, listing Keyless Accounts, Confidential APT and the Encrypted Mempool.

With the feature on, users can encrypt "the function called and its inputs" until a transaction's block is finalized, Aptos Labs said on Tuesday. The Petra browser extension is the first wallet to support it at signing, the company said.
Under the design Aptos Labs proposed in October 2025, validators would share a decryption key each epoch, and decrypting would require a majority of stake. Transactions would be decrypted after they are ordered and before they are executed, the post said.

It estimated the online decryption phase at under 20 milliseconds per batch of transactions.

Confidential APT Encrypts Balances, Leaves Addresses Visible

The Encrypted Mempool is one of three opt-in confidentiality features Aptos now runs on mainnet.

"Confidential $APT allows users and institutions to encrypt balances and transfer amounts," Aptos said in the same thread. A zero-knowledge proof confirms each transfer is valid while the amounts stay hidden, and addresses remain visible, it said.

Keyless Accounts let people create blockchain accounts with Google or Apple credentials without publicly tying that identity to an on-chain address, according to Aptos.

Aptos described the features as "opt-in by design, and designed for compliant use cases." Confidential APT is available in Petra and on a Confidential Assets web app built by Aptos Labs.
Other projects have moved in a similar direction. The XRP Ledger's version 3.3.0 proposed encrypted transfers for tokenized assets in August, and the Zk.money privacy wallet returned to Ethereum in September.
