The song has really memorable lyrics: 'NFT. For your vanity. Computers never sleep. It’s verified. It’s guaranteed.'
Elon Musk has waded into the NFT craze by announcing he’s selling a song about non-fungible tokens… as an NFT.
The artwork is also accompanied by a video that shows a spinning trophy declared with golden coins, the world HODL, and the phrase “Computers Never Sleep.”
Musk’s song has something of an electric feel, and rather surreal lyrics. A female voice says:
“NFT. For your vanity. Computers never sleep. It’s verified. It’s guaranteed.”
Cool. Very profound.
Bids Surge
It’s worth noting that the NFT means that the successful bidder will be the owner of the tweet, caption, and the music video that Musk has posted. While it will continue to live on his profile, the new owner will receive “a digital certificate” of the tweet that has been signed and verified by the creator.
Answering the question of why on Earth anyone would want to buy a tweet, Valuables said:
“Owning any digital content can be a financial investment, hold sentimental value, and create a relationship between collector and creator. Like an autograph on a baseball card, the NFT itself is the creator’s autograph on the content, making it scarce, unique, and valuable.”
We’ve got some burning questions about how all of this works — and so we’ve reached out to the team behind Valuables for a comment. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share the answers soon.
