Background

Wanchain is a sustainable Layer 1 PoS blockchain and a decentralised wide area network of blockchains. The Wanchain Layer 1 PoS blockchain is a full Ethereum-like environment that works with industry-standard Ethereum tools, DAPPs, and protocols. Wanchain’s wide area network of blockchains is a decentralised system of direct, non-custodial cross-chain bridges that connect both EVM and non-EVM networks without requiring any centralised intermediaries. Currently, more than 20 Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks are connected by Wanchain’s wide area network of blockchains including but not limited to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Avalanche C-Chain, BNB Chain, Fantom, Litecoin, OKC Network, Optimism, Polkadot Relay Chain, Polygon, and the XRP Ledger.

Last July, the team at Wanchain shared details about their ongoing work with IOG and MLabs to make Cardano interoperable — a complex undertaking since Cardano is a heterogeneous, non-EVM network. The goal was to build the infrastructure required to enable applications spanning multiple blockchains, thereby driving the adoption of Cardano’s ecosystem, promoting Wanchain’s network-agnostic cross-chain infrastructure, and advancing the future of Web3.
In late March, Wanchain announced that decentralised, non-custodial, bi-directional cross-chain bridges were officially up and running on Cardano Pre-Production! The following decentralised, non-custodial, bi-directional cross-chain bridge types are currently deployed:
  1. Move ADA to any EVM-compatible chain and back
  2. Move Cardano native tokens to any EVM-compatible chain and back
  3. Move any coin or ERC20 token from any EVM-compatible chain to Cardano and back
Now, after hitting this significant development milestone, Wanchain is launching a Public Bug Bounty to encourage and incentivise the discovery and reporting of bugs and security vulnerabilities in the bridges’ front-end, smart contracts, wallet interactions, blockchain explorer and any other bridge-related element not explicitly mentioned here. The aim of this Public Bug Bounty is for users, developers and security researchers to identify any issues before the mainnet launch, thereby improving the overall security and integrity of the Cardano Bridge.

Key information

Public Bug Bounty rewards

Rewards for submitting verified bugs and suggested improvements range from 10 $ADA & 10 $WAN to 10,000 $ADA & 10,000 $WAN, depending on severity.

  • Trivial: 10 $ADA & 10 $WAN
  • General: 50 $ADA & 50 $WAN
  • Major: 200 $ADA & 200 $WAN
  • Critical: 1500 $ADA & 1500 $WAN
  • Fatal: 10,000 $ADA & 10,000 $WAN

Additionally, participants who participate in this Public Bug Bounty may become eligible for extra rewards.

Please submit all bugs and suggestions using the Bug Bounty Report Form.

Note: Where multiple users submit the same bug, only the first user to submit the bug via the Bug Bounty Report Form will receive the reward. The severity classification of bugs is at the sole discretion of Wanchain’s R&D team, and the Wanchain Foundation has the right to the final interpretation of all aspects related to this Public Bug Bounty Program.

Decentralised, non-custodial, bi-directional Cardano cross-chain bridges

While Wanchain’s industry-leading decentralised cross-chain architecture supports more than 20 EVM and non-EVM public networks, this Public Bug Bounty focuses on the following bridge routes:

  • Cardano ← →Ethereum
  • Cardano ← → Wanchain
  • Ethereum ← → Wanchain

Three coins/tokens can be moved seamlessly between these chains: $ADA, $DJED and $WAN. $ADA is the native coin of the Cardano network. $DJED is a prominent stablecoin and native token on Cardano. $WAN is the native coin of the Wanchain EVM-compatible blockchain. With these three assets, the three deployed bridge types can all be tested.

Once deployed on the Cardano Mainnet, users will be able to bridge assets to and from Cardano and the 20+ public networks currently supported by Wanchain’s cross-chain infrastructure.

How to use the Cardano Bridge

Prepare the environment(s)

1) Make sure you have the appropriate wallets installed.

Before using the Cardano Bridge, you need to ensure that you have access to the correct wallet(s). You must have wallets for each network involved in the cross-chain transaction. MetaMask is the default option for any EVM-compatible blockchain network. Nami Wallet is a browser extension wallet that grants you access to the Cardano network. Yoroi Nightly is another browser extension wallet to access the Cardano Pre-Production network. Please note that you will need to add collateral if you are using Nami Wallet. Additionally, if both Nami Wallet and Yoroi Nightly are installed, the Cardano Bridge will default to Nami Wallet.

2) Connect your Nami Wallet to Cardano Pre-Production and your MetaMask to the relevant testnet.

Connect to Cardano Pre-Production: In the Nami Wallet, navigate to Settings → Network and select “Preprod.”

Connect to Ethereum Goerli: In MetaMask, select “Goerli test network” from the network drop-down menu. It is available by default.

Connect to Wanchain Testnet: In MetaMask, click “Add network” in the network drop-down menu. Click “Add a network manully” and connect to the Wanchain testnet network using the following information:

3) Get Pre-Production and testnet assets

Access the ADA faucet here. Select “Preprod Testnet” as the environment and “Receive test ADA” as the action. Enter your address and click “Request Funds.”
Access the DJED Pre-Production environment here. Connect your wallet and mint $DJED. Please note that you will need to add collateral if you are using Nami Wallet.
Access a web-based WAN faucet here. Enter your address and click “Get Token.” Access a Telegram-based WAN faucet here. Follow the prompts.

Execute an $ADA cross-chain transaction from Cardano to Wanchain

1) Visit the testnet WanBridge web portal connect your MetaMask.

2) Initiate a cross-chain transaction to move your $ADA from Cardano to Wanchain.

Select “ADA” from the drop-down menu. Then, choose “Cardano” and “Wanchain” as your From and To networks, respectively. Finally, input your destination address in the “Recipient” field as well as the amount of $ADA you want to send crosschain. Click “Next”.
The Nami Wallet will automatically connect when your select Cardano as the From network. You must send more than 1 $ADA.
Note: To initiate a $DJED or $WAN cross-chain transaction, simply select “Djed Test USD” or “WAN” from the drop-down menu. To initiate a cross-chain transation to Ethereum, simply choose “Ethereum” as the To network.
Confirm that all the details are correct then click “Confirm”.

Confirm the cross-chain transaction in your Nami Wallet. Click “Sign”.

3) Wait for your cross-chain transaction to complete. It is now processing.

While your crosschain transaction is processing, the status will change three times:

  • Processing (1/2)
  • Processing (2/2)
  • Success
Note: The speed of the crosschain transaction is entirely dependent on the networks involved. Transactions involving slower networks like Bitcoin or Ethereum may take several minutes or more to complete.
