Complicated Crypto Wallets Deter Gamers from Web3 Experiences

A recent report by Elympics, in collaboration with the Blockchain Game Alliance (BGA) and the tracking service PlayToEarn, highlights significant barriers preventing gamers from engaging with Web3 games.

The report, titled “The Future of Web3 Gaming is Competitive: Global Gaming Report 2024,” surveyed 1,000 gamers globally to understand their perceptions of blockchain gaming.

Among the key findings, over 10% of respondents cited the complexity of cryptocurrency wallets as the primary reason they have not participated in Web3 games. This sentiment reflects a broader skepticism, with 7.3% of participants indicating they do not comprehend the value proposition of blockchain gaming.

Additionally, 9.1% expressed a lack of interest in blockchain-based gaming, while 2.4% stated they are satisfied with traditional Web2 gaming experiences.

Despite these challenges, many participants expressed enthusiasm for the potential of Web3 gaming, particularly the opportunities for airdrops and earning money. The competitive nature of these games was also a significant draw for players.

Elympics CEO Michal Dabrowski commented on the ongoing struggles of Web3 gaming to attract mainstream audiences. He noted a potential shift in the landscape, with infrastructure players like The Open Network (TON) entering the space.

Dabrowski emphasized that as more developers create high-quality games within Web3, the sector may gain traction.

Efforts to simplify the user experience are underway. For instance, Justin Hyun, director of investments at the TON Foundation, mentioned that Telegram's Mini Apps aim to integrate crypto functionalities seamlessly, enhancing user engagement without complicating the process.

Following these developments, games like Hamster Kombat have seen significant user adoption, with over 300 million users onboarded through the Telegram platform.
