TE-FOOD implemented blockchain based traceability at Pannonia Bio, the largest biorefinery in Europe

Pannonia Bio - a subsidiary of the Irish ClonBio Group - operates the largest single site bioethanol plant in Europe. Each year, the biorefinery processes over a million tons of grain to produce over 500 million litres of bioethanol, hundreds of thousands of tons of protein-rich animal feed and more than 10,000 tons of corn oil.

Pannonia Bio's mission is to mitigate climate change by manufacturing grain based bioproducts. Production of animal feed increases European food security while Pannonia Bio's ethanol protects the environment by having greenhouse gas emissions that are 30% those of the petrol it displaces.

Pannonia Bio has introduced TE-FOOD's blockchain based traceability system for the feed production for fisheries. The system not only creates supply chain records but integrates an accredited measuring laboratory to extend product information with lab results and lot based certificates.

The system creates such transport documentation, that allows the customers to view all product documentation with a scan of a QR code, including overall company certificates, environmental permits, product specific certificates and permits, fact sheets, and final lot specific documentation like lab result certificates.

All transactions and documents are uploaded, and authenticated by TE-FOOD’s blockchain network, the TrustChain.

After the pilot phase of both the new production line in the green field factory unit and the traceability system, Pannonia Bio is planning to supply traceability documentation for other product-lines as well, and also plan to fully integrate the TE-FOOD system into its legacy system environment to create transactions automatically.
