The world has witnessed the proliferation of tech products with software development and deployment witnessing a rapid increase globally.
A <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1020956/android-app-releases-worldwide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Statista report</a> revealed that between 52,000 and 141,000 applications have been released every month on Google Play alone since 2019. Because these apps and software compete with each other once out there, there is a need for the software industry to take the software testing phase seriously before deployment.&nbsp;
The Bug Detective is on a mission to empower testers, elevate the quality of software and generally transform tech in Africa.
“At The Bug Detective, we have achieved numerous milestones. But at the heart of our success is the impact we make, as impact is one of our core values. One of our most notable successes is the Software Testing for Beginners Program, which has seen over 1,000 graduates. The Bug Detective has been at the forefront of training the next generation of testers for free, ensuring they receive the highest quality of training, mentorship, and preparation needed to thrive in their testing careers. Our commitment to providing comprehensive and impactful education has set a new standard in the industry,” the company said.
Founded in 2021 by Abiola Rasaq, the organisation has a dynamic testing community where knowledge is shared and growth is nurtured. With over 1500 volunteer coaches and students across 15 countries, the company boasts a wide reach that stretches across the globe. The Bug Detective has hosted more than 20 webinars and trained over 1500 individuals, reaching an audience of 25,000 people in various capacities within Quality Assurance and Tech in the process.
“These achievements emphasise our dedication to advancing the field of software testing and quality assurance, and we continue to strive for excellence in everything we do,” the company said.
The Bug Detective made history in 2023 when it hosted #TestFest23, the first-ever test festival in Lagos, Nigeria. The event which was held on September 9th which was International Software Testers Day, witnessed the participation of 300 attendees who joined in the celebration of the unsung heroes of African tech innovations – the Software Testers and Quality Assurance Professionals.

The keynote speaker at the event was Sobhitha Neelanath, the Senior Manager of Software Engineering at Dell Technologies. Sobhitha, who had previously served as a software tester, shared the stage with many other amazing speakers.
TBD is set to host another grand event in September 2024, further promoting the need for quality in the tech ecosystem. This festival aims to shine a spotlight on the pivotal role of quality assurance and software testing in driving innovation and growth within Africa’s tech ecosystem.
With that, TBD has established a tradition of holding its annual test festival called the African Test Festival every September.

<h4 id="the-tbd-6-0-cohort" class="wp-block-heading">The TBD 6.0 cohort</h4>

The Bug Detective has also opened applications for admission into the sixth cohort of its Software Testing for Beginners program. The program is a two-month free training program which starts off with five weeks of intensive training and group projects.
This would be followed by a three-week job preparation and mentorship program focused on how to kick off a career as a tester. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to actually empower participants with employable skills beyond their training.
Prior knowledge of testing or tech skills is optional for this program. However, successful applicants will be required to have access to laptops and stable internet. They must also be willing to demonstrate keen dedication and a real commitment to learning. Finally and quite importantly, there has to be a keen interest in software testing.&nbsp;
Facilitators for this cohort include Chuks Ojugo, a Hawthorne-trained quality assurance tester who will be taking the course: Introduction to Software Testing. There is also Adewale Akano, a software quality assurance engineer at Autocheck Africa who will be taking the course on Low code test Automation. Finally, Olawale Ibitoye is a freelance quality assurance engineer and software tester.
Other notable members include Emelia Sunday as Training Lead, Elizabeth Shonnubi as community lead, Esther Okafor as Partnership Lead and Sarah Aboh as the Event Lead
Topics to be treated during the programme include:

 <li>Test case documentation and execution</li>
 <li>Bug and defect reports and other test artefacts</li>

This follows the success of the previous five cohorts, which attracted thousands of applicants, many of whom had no prior experience in tech. These participants have since gained real-life skills, valuable experience, and continuous support from our community, aiding them throughout their career journey<s>s</s>.
