Cardano experienced a severe distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on June 25. Developers are now working to strengthen the network’s defenses against similar incidents in the future. The attack <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/06/26/cardano-blockchain-faces-ddos-attack-at-block-10487530/" target="_blank" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/06/26/cardano-blockchain-faces-ddos-attack-at-block-10487530/" rel="noreferrer noopener">began at block 10,487,530</a> and aimed to exploit vulnerabilities in blockchain transaction fee calculations. 
Raul Antonio, CTO of Fluid Tokens, noted that the attacker aimed to reduce fees for high-value transactions and potentially steal staked Cardano ADA tokens.

Philip Disarro, CEO of Anastasia Labs, <a href="https://x.com/phil_uplc/status/1805653337976504428" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">described</a> the attack strategy, emphasizing its impact on transaction processing by validators. Despite the attempt, Cardano developers swiftly responded, preventing the theft of ADA tokens and effectively halting the DDoS assault.&nbsp;

In an unexpected turn, Disarro commented on the irony that the attacker inadvertently contributed to open-source smart contract development funds. He emphasized the importance of rigorous testing and independent audits before implementing network upgrades to prevent vulnerabilities that could lead to financial losses. 
Intersect, a Cardano ecosystem organization, <a href="https://x.com/IntersectMBO/status/1805709955493752880" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">confirmed</a> the incident and praised the community’s rapid response. Although the network experienced heightened activity and some stake pool operators faced challenges, Cardano’s core functionality remained unaffected.
