Aptos Labs and NBCUniversal have entered into a long-term development agreement to provide the entertainment company with Web3 fan experiences, customer loyalty programs and gaming. Aptos already has a track record developing fan experiences for major Universal films.
Aptos will expand on previous Web3 initiatives offered by NBCUniversal, according to an announcement. Aptos <a href="https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-exorcist-believer-virtual-experience-behind-the-scenes-art-photos-aptos-labs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">developed</a> Free Renfield the Game in March 2023 based on the film “Renfield.” The game lets players search for bugs that give the possessor superhuman powers and match them to scenes from the movie. They then won prizes that included collectible digital art.
In September, Aptos <a href="https://comicbook.com/horror/news/the-exorcist-believer-virtual-experience-behind-the-scenes-art-photos-aptos-labs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">created</a> behind-the-scenes media, augmented reality filters, digital art and opportunities to win prizes for purchasers of tickets to “The Exorcist: Believer” through the Fandango service.

Other NBCUniversal Web3 offerings have included a digital scavenger hunt at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort. That event was <a href="https://halloweenhorrornights.fandom.com/wiki/Halloween_Horror_Nights_NFT_Scavenger_Hunt" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">created</a> in cooperation with the MoonPay blockchain payment system. Universal Pictures vice president of technology partnerships Greg Reed said:

NBCUniversal is owned by telecommunications giant Comcast. NBCUniversal owns DreamWorks film studio and the Peacock streaming service.

Aptos, headed by former Meta executives Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/performing-as-expected-aptos-labs-defends-day-1-criticism" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">launched a proof-of-stake</a> blockchain in October 2022 using a program language developed for Meta’s failed Diem stablecoin project. Among other things, it <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/pancakeswap-changes-its-recipe-with-the-launch-of-version-3" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">powers the PancakeSwap</a> decentralized crypto exchange, Chingari Indian <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/aptos-user-growth-900-percent-integration-social-media-app-chingari" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">social media platform</a> and Overlai intellectual property rights protection service.
Aptos <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/aptos-token-surges-after-partner-microsoft" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">integrated Microsoft</a> artificial intelligence tools from the Azure OpenAI service in August, hoping to appeal to the financial services sector.
