A recent survey found women in crypto are making nearly 15% more than their male counterparts on a median salary basis — resulting in a “reversed” gender wage gap.
The median salary of United States-based full-time working women in the crypto industry came out at $172,000, while men was $150,000, <a href="https://pantera-research-lab.vercel.app/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">according</a> to a compensation survey conducted by Pantera Research Lab.
“Our analysis finds that gender wage differentials among crypto employees are the reverse of what is normally observed,” Pantera researchers Matt Stephenson, Ally Zach and Nick Zurck explained on July 29.
Women at non-crypto companies typically <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/if-the-glass-slipper-doesn-t-fit-smash-it-unraveling-the-myth-of-gender-equality-in-crypto" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">only make $0.84</a> for every dollar that men make, the researchers at the digital asset-focused venture capital firm noted.

Pantera collected data from 502 United States-based full-time employees between June 4 and July 20, 2024.
The web-based survey was disseminated via professional networks such as LinkedIn, X, newsletters and emails.
The <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/women-in-crypto-an-overview" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">higher salaries for women</a> may partly be attributed to women having more experience at crypto companies at a median time frame of 5.3 years <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/men-check-bitcoin-price-more-frequently-than-women-new-study-reveals" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">compared to 4.5 years for men.</a>
Women also <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/singaporean-women-outperforming-men-in-crypto-trades-survey-reveals" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">make up a larger proportion</a> of mid-level to senior positions, Pantera’s researchers noted.
“In contrast, a larger proportion of men occupy <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/5-entry-level-machine-learning-jobs" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">entry-level positions</a> as they transition into the crypto industry.”

However, “it is important to recognize that women still likely continue to face hurdles and obstacles in this industry,” Pantera’s researchers said.
Only three of the 50 leading crypto CEOs in 2023 were female though, <a href="https://forexsuggest.com/women-in-crypto/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">according</a> to a report from Forex Suggest.
That said, both men and women in crypto are walking away with higher salaries compared to most professions.
