<p>China’s strict stance on cryptocurrencies began in 2013, when the government prohibited financial institutions from engaging in <a href="https://bitcoin.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin</a> transactions. This initial ban marked the start of a series of regulations aimed at curbing the growth of the crypto market within its borders.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In 2017, China banned Initial Coin Offerings (<a href="https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/cryptocurrency/initial-coin-offering-ico/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ICOs</a>) and shut down domestic cryptocurrency exchanges. The crackdown extended further in 2021, with a ban on crypto mining and all crypto-related transactions.</p>
<p>Despite the ban, the demand for cryptocurrencies in China has <a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/china-still-loves-crypto-with-binance-user-spike-bitcoin-mining-rumors/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">remained high</a>. Many Chinese crypto users have sought alternative ways to acquire and trade crypto coins, often turning to overseas exchanges and underground markets.&nbsp;</p>
<p>If China were to <a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/poll-china-might-be-next-on-nigerias-footsteps/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">lift its crypto ban</a>, the impact on the global cryptocurrency market could be tremendous. As one of the world’s largest economies, China’s re-entry into the crypto market could boost trading volumes and drive up the prices of digital currencies.&nbsp;</p>
