In a significant crackdown in Novosibirsk, police have dismantled four illegal cryptocurrency mining farms, confiscating over 3,000 mining devices and pressing criminal charges against the network owner. These operations, discovered in diverse locations such as near sewage plants, forested areas, garbage dumps, and residential zones, were illegally tapped into the power grid, causing substantial financial damage, according to <a href="https://www.rbc.ru/crypto/news/66165d619a794715a7f675e7">RBC</a>. 
The seized equipment, including nine transformers and 3,225 mining devices, indicates the scale of electricity theft, estimated to cost over 197 million rubles in damages. This operation marks a continuation of a nationwide effort against <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/abkhazia-intensifies-crackdown-on-illegal-crypto-mining/">illegal mining</a> activities that siphon off massive amounts of electricity, highlighting the growing issue of energy theft in the cryptocurrency mining industry. 
In February alone, an illegal farm with 100 ASIC devices was uncovered near Novosibirsk, and throughout 2023, 17 additional operations were shut down across Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, and Khakassia, totaling over 60 million rubles in losses. These incidents underscore the significant financial impact of unauthorized mining on local energy supplies and the broader implications for Russia's energy infrastructure. 
This latest raid in Novosibirsk not only showcases the ongoing battle against unauthorized cryptocurrency mining but also signals a strong stance by Russian authorities to curb the illegal use of energy resources.
