FTX Users Potentially Received a Phishing Email

Several users of the insolvent cryptocurrency exchange FTX have potentially received a phishing email, after receiving a "reset password" request via the exchange's official support email.

It was reported that support@ftx.com, the exchange's official email address prior to its collapse in November, sent the email. The FTX claims portal, which enables users to file bankruptcy claims for assets they owned on the platform prior to its collapse, is accessible via the password reset link.

The unexpected emails may have been sent by FTX to alert users of the claims portal, or they may have been sent by someone using a list of emails to brute force users' attempts to reset their passwords via the portal.

The possibility exists that a hacker with user email addresses may access a claimant's account and transfer money to their personal wallet. After collapsing in a pool of leveraged and illiquid tokens in November of last year, FTX now owes customers almost $8.7 billion.
