The Euronext building in the La Défense business district on the outskirts of Paris has been stormed by protestors opposing recent French political developments.

Demonstrators occupied the entrance hall of the stock exchange, protesting President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform plan. Unrest surrounding the plan has continued even after its implementation earlier this month, according to Bloomberg.

French unions rally, demanding change amidst pension reform controversy

French television captured the chaotic scene unfolding at the prominent stock exchange. The coverage depicted railway workers and others chanting and waving union flags in protest.

A Euronext spokeswoman confirmed that the demonstration ended by 1 p.m. local time, stating that the protestors “had no impact on its operations and hadn’t disrupted trading.”

The protest stems from widespread discontent over President Macron’s recent pension reform, which raises the minimum retirement age from 62 to 64.

Anger over this political decision has been a persistent issue in France. Numerous offices, including those of LVMH, BlackRock Inc., and Natisix SA, have been targeted by protestors in the past. Thursday’s event at the Euronext building marks the latest location to face protests.
