African streaming platform, Wi-flix partners with MTN for its expansion to Zambia
Wi-flix, one of the fastest-growing streaming platforms in Africa that’s been making waves in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria, has landed in Zambia. This is coming a few months after Wi-flix announced the integration of Dolby Atmos to provide viewers with compatible Dolby Atmos-enabled devices for a better spatial sound experience.

The streaming platform has partnered with MTN, the mobile telecommunications giant, to offer unbeatable packages to consumers in Zambia. Wi-flix is thrilled to offer its customers access to MTN’s latest 5G high-speed internet connectivity.

This exciting partnership aims to provide subscribers with an even more seamless and enjoyable streaming experience, enhancing the customer experience and bringing viewers the best possible entertainment options.

Some of the other unbeatable packages that come with this new expansion, particularly for MTN Zambia subscribers, include access to thousands of hours of unlimited premium content, daily, weekly, and monthly data packages starting as low as K1 + free 50MB for a daily package, K5 + free 150MB for a weekly package, and K20 + free 300MB bonus.

The company’s bold ambition to become the go-to content provider for the African continent and diaspora is driving its latest expansion plan. Intending to reach even more viewers, the company is expanding its footprint and establishing itself as a leading player in the industry, thus achieving its Ambition 2025 of leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress.

Speaking on this new expansion plan, Bright Yeboah, Co-Founder & Chief Operations Officer, of Wi-flix, said

Our presence in Zambia is instrumental in our mission to democratize content and ensure affordable premium entertainment is accessible to everyone on the continent and those in the diaspora. This also presents an opportunity for film producers, directors, and aggregators in Zambia and elsewhere with quality content to monetize their works on our streaming platform.

He further said,

We are excited to expand our footprint, which has seen tremendous growth in such a short amount of time, with the addition of more content to our catalogue for our audiences and meet the growing demand for premium content, establishing Wi-flix as the home of the best of entertainment anywhere, at any time and on any device.

Throwback to a year ago; Wi-flix milestone reach

Last May, Wi-flix made headlines after announcing that it had exceeded one million paid memberships in just over a year since its launch. As a thank you to its loyal subscribers, the streaming platform gifted over 1,000 viewers with 48 hours of free access to all their favourite movies, series, children’s content, and live TV shows.

According to Technext, Wi-flix’s subscription milestone was likely achieved by the platform’s continuous expansion of its content library and distribution partnerships. The company’s growth percentage increased significantly in the first quarter of 2022, with a 51% increase in revenue and a 61% increase in subscriptions.

Wi-flix’s remarkable growth is a testament to the platform’s unwavering dedication to delivering high-quality entertainment to viewers throughout Africa and beyond. Despite facing challenges such as low connectivity and high data costs, the number of active streaming platforms in the region has grown significantly in recent years as the continent adapts to the global shift away from traditional networks.

Wi-flix has established itself as a major player in this rapidly evolving landscape. With its new vision plan, it’s uncertain what the future holds for the platform, but the prospects certainly look promising. Regardless, Wi-flix will continue pushing boundaries and setting new standards for streaming services across the continent.
