About Wellchain

Wellchain is lowering the cost of healthcare using the blockchain. We're developing an enhanced care coordination DApp. Wellchain will be the first to quantify someone's comprehensive health status. Through a patent-pending method of record scanning using AI, OCR and a weighted index, a score (we call Pytho) results. The Pytho score is a quantified snapshot used for triage (prioritization). This helps with resource management (as with staffing) and improves a hospital's efficiency. In addition to prioritizing patient care, a patient's condition can be tracked over time and displayed as a Status Change Index (% of improvement or decline over time). This allows for comparison between patients and even facilities. It can tell us if a facility’s operations are improving or worsening. As an added benefit, we can identify trends like nosocomial (hospital-spread) infections and give early alerts as to the causal agent and location within a facility. One of the key features is the ability to track patient compliance using the blockchain. Attractive incentives will be issued to the patient for complying with a provider’s treatment plan (hence the gamification aspect). Compliance points are earned, and patients compete either with themselves or others. All of this results in better patient outcomes while driving down the cost of healthcare. There is one version for the facility and one for the patient and both are integrated on the back end. Other features include telemedicine, team communications, reporting, reminders, alerts, scheduling, and medical record access. We believe in the ability of decentralization to empower the next generation of healthcare.

Paul Roberts is the Cofounder/CEO of Wellchain. He got his start as a registered nurse about 25 years ago when he became a field nurse case manager. That means that he went out and accompanied patients to doctor visits in the field (their town). After doing this for a couple years and getting acclimated, it occurred to him that there was substantial value in this type of service, and it wasn’t being offered to the rest of the healthcare sector. The main value he saw was enhanced care coordination and making sure everyone is on the same page and things aren’t falling through the cracks. He was able to get things done a lot quicker than the normal way things are handled. He discovered there was substantial improvement in care, and the speed at which people recovered because of the avoidance of such delays and through facilitating communication between the parties. This discovery sent him on a new path, to transform healthcare as we know it. The congressional healthcare plan that he developed took into consideration the utilization of medical case managers for highly complex cases and expanded that concept from a niche sector (5% of healthcare) to the entire global landscape. Since 50% of healthcare costs are associated with only 5% of highly complex patients, the resulting cost savings to the healthcare system would be undoubtedly substantial, perhaps as much as 30%. That 30% would equate to approximately $2.4 trillion of cost savings per year globally. He worked with Congress on the proposal and later published the work. He then created a documentary on healthcare reform, entitled Diagnosing Healthcare, and embarked on the concept of a care coordination app with the same aim (enhancing care coordination). He was able to get the first version completed, but then discovered there is an even greater version yet to be implemented using the blockchain.
