Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has announced her decision to join President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign as a senior adviser, while simultaneously retaining her position on the global advisory council of crypto exchange Coinbase. 
Bottoms, who served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022, joined Coinbase’s advisory council in April 2024 following her advisory role at the White House. However, in her new political position, Bottoms repeated her concern for the case of unbanked or underbanked consumers, especially from the black community. 
In her <a href="https://thehill.com/business/4743521-coinbase-adviser-bottoms-biden-campaign/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>, Bottoms underscored the apolitical nature of cryptocurrency, referring to it as a movement supported by both parties and attracting the attention of voters across the country.&nbsp; 
From a legal standpoint, experts have indicated that Bottoms’ dual roles do not present a conflict of interest, as there are minimal regulations governing campaign advisers.&nbsp; 
Moreover, this is different from recent worries about the same dual capacities in public service and the private sector where these questions have come up amid ongoing debates about governance and transparency. 
When she joined Biden’s campaign team and served on Coinbase’s advisory council, Bottoms waded into the controversy around crypto-industry influence over policies in Washington D.C.&nbsp;However, Coinbase has <a href="https://x.com/iampaulgrewal/status/1806299314161086659" target="_blank">called</a> for clearer regulations in the cryptocurrency space Advocating for campaigns like Stand With Crypto focused on achieving regulatory clarity.
