<p>Seven US states have joined together to sue the SEC regarding<a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2024/07/19/2024-election-key-to-crypto-regulation-says-brad-garlinghouse/"> crypto regulation</a>. The coalition, led by Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, said that the SEC overstepped its authority with its actions and called them a ‘power grab.’ The states that are parties to the lawsuit include Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Iowa.</p>

<p>Iowa has also provided for the protection of scam victims and the apprehension of scammers. The states view the SEC’s actions as a violation of their jurisdiction. The filing claimed that the SEC’s overreach harms the free market and hampers the state’s efforts to perform their work.</p>

<p>The Iowa Attorney General’s Office, the Respondent in this matter, stated that the SEC’s actions are unlawful. Critics claim that the agency is operating extra-legislatively to assume new competencies. The coalition has indicated that the SEC needs the authority to regulate cryptocurrencies.</p>

They argue that cryptocurrencies are not investment contracts under the Securities Act 1934. The coalition also wants the court to stop the SEC from overstepping its mandate.</p>

Peirce, who has been an advocate of cryptocurrency, understands the pressure that industries are under. <p>Peirce wanted the SEC to focus on enforcement measures. She believes that overregulation is bad for innovation and that partnership is the solution. Her observations are consistent with a gradually developing stance within the industry toward the SEC’s regulation.</p>
