Binance’s CZ latest news: The founder and ex-CEO of the biggest cryptocurrency exchange Binance Changpeng “CZ” Zhao has been released from custody on a $175 million personal recognizance bond after pleading guilty to violating the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).&nbsp;
The charges arise from allegations that he directed Binance to allow U.S. customers to use the platform without proper know-your-customer or anti-money laundering checks. Bond conditions and sentencing hearing 
Zhao posted $15 million held in a trust account by DWT and agreed to forfeit funds if he violated the terms of his release. Two guarantors, pledging $250,000 and $100,000 respectively, are part of the conditions. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2024, at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. Source: PACER 
Standard provisions in the bond release include refraining from breaking the law, tampering with witnesses or victims, and avoiding non-prescribed controlled substances.
The release order seemingly allows Zhao to leave the U.S., with a requirement to return 14 days prior to sentencing. However, federal prosecutors expressed a desire to appeal this provision.

Zhao resigned from Binance as part of the company’s settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Binance faces a $4.3 billion penalty to federal agencies and will undergo monitoring for the next five years. The settlement also includes charges resolved with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). These bodies represent the U.S.’s money laundering, sanctions, and federal commodities oversight respectively.
During a press conference, Attorney General Merrick Garland highlighted the significance of the penalties, stating, “This is one of the largest penalties we have ever obtained from a corporate defendant in a criminal matter.”
Due to Zhao’s guilty plea agreement, he waives the right to appeal any sentence exceeding 18 months. The DOJ and Zhao agreed to a $50 million fine, with no prison time specified. However, amid market correction, the overall crypto market is in trouble after the <a href="https://news.todayq.com/krakens-jesse-powell-warns-us-crypto-exchanges-calls-sec-top-decel/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">SEC sued Kraken</a> for violating securities laws, and another Binance CEO has stepped down.
