A Georgia man, Steven Drawdy, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison for fraud involving mining computers. The 40-year-old was also given three years of probation and fined $1.1 million by the Georgia District Court. Drawdy admitted to a scheme where he sold expensive computer equipment fraudulently. From August 2021 to April 2022, he participated in cryptocurrency online forums, obtaining over $1.1 million from 42 victims. Instead of delivering the promised mining computers, Drawdy kept the money and cut off communication with his victims. Sometimes, he offered partial refunds but demanded a processing fee, never providing either refunds or computers, according to <a href="https://bits.media/sud-prigovoril-zhitelya-shtata-dzhordzhiya-k-32-mesyatsam-tyurmy-za-moshennichestvo-s-kompyuterami-d/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bits.media</a>.
“Steven Drawdy deceived dozens, exploiting their desire to earn money in the complex world of cryptocurrencies. Law enforcement has done excellent work uncovering and stopping this fraudulent scheme. We will continue, in partnership with the FBI, to pursue and prosecute criminals, even those using the latest technologies,” stated the local prosecution.&nbsp;
In May, New York police arrested a local businessman for a cryptocurrency scheme where investors lost over $43 million. Recently, a New York court sentenced Bitzlato co-founder Anatoly Legkodymov to 18 months for operating an unlicensed money transfer business. Legkodymov has already served this sentence in an American prison.
