The crypto ecosystem witnessed a surge in the number of hacks in June while the market was wandering in the bearish zone.&nbsp;
According to data provided by PeckShield, hackers stole $176.2 million from crypto platforms in June, recording a 54.2% decrease from May’s $574.6 million.&nbsp;

Data shows that the least amount of hacks so far this year happened in April, reaching $60.19 million. Per the blockchain security company’s X post, the total amount of crypto lost to hackers this year has surpassed the $1.5 billion mark.

The largest hack belongs to the Turkish crypto trading platform BtcTurk, worth $100.25 million. Per a crypto.news report on June 22, the company’s <a href="https://crypto.news/crypto-exchange-btcturk-attack-hot-wallets-compromised/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hot wallets were compromised</a>, letting the attackers breach at least 10 different cryptocurrencies.
Moreover, the second-largest hack last month belonged to the British crypto exchange Lykke, where hackers <a href="https://crypto.news/british-crypto-exchange-lykke-loses-over-22m-in-hacker-attack/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">stole over $22 million</a> from the company.
UwU Lend, Holograph and Velocore also made it to the top five with $19.4 million, $14.4 million and $6.8 million lost to hackers in June, respectively.&nbsp;
According to a report from Immunefi, the cryptocurrency ecosystem <a href="https://crypto.news/crypto-industry-lost-572-7-million-to-hacks-and-scams-in-q2/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">lost $572.7 million</a> to hacks and scams in Q2 this year. 72 fraudulent incidents were recorded over the past three months.
Per data from Crystal Intelligence, the crypto industry lost nearly $20 billion to hacks and scams between 2011 and March 2024. The total number of breaches has <a href="https://crypto.news/crypto-hacks-wiped-out-nearly-20b-from-industry-crystal-intelligence-estimates/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reached</a> a total of 785.
