 Kosovo, a Southeastern European country, is advancing its efforts to enhance financial literacy in cryptocurrency through a multi-day workshop involving the region’s finance leaders.&nbsp;

From September 24 to September 26, the leaders from Kosovo’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) will be participating in the Cyberkop Action of the Octopus Project, an initiative organized by the Council of Europe. 
The Octopus Project, which began on January 1, 2021, and will continue until December 31, 2027, involves key stakeholders from States Parties and Observers to the Convention on Cybercrime, as well as various public and private sector organizations. Its main objective is to provide comprehensive solutions for combating cybercrime and to assist countries in implementing the Budapest Convention. The initiative also seeks to equip these institutions with improved tools for tracing and confiscating illicit digital currency transactions. 
<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.coe.int/en/web/cybercrime/-/octopus-project-cyberkop-action-domestic-joint-workshop-on-cryptocurrencies-analysis-to-confiscation">According to the Council</a>, the workshops will also involve financial intelligence experts, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, and representatives from the Central Bank of Kosovo to enhance local skills and knowledge regarding digital currencies and Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs). 
It added that one of the objectives of the sessions is to enhance participants’ understanding of the current legal frameworks surrounding digital currencies and licensing requirements. The workshops are also expected to address operational and investigative components and equip them with improved tools to apply the knowledge effectively. 
In a similar trend of pursuing active cryptocurrency literacy, the Algorand Foundation recently annouced it is now a vital player in Nigeria’s blockchain<a href="https://defi-planet.com/2024/09/algorand-support-nigerias-blockchain-initiatives-empowers-developers/"> development efforts</a>. The Foundation claimed that it aligned its initiatives with the objectives of the country’s National Blockchain Policy introduced in 2023 and has, so far, led many important ventures to upskill Nigerians and help the State governments achieve their aims. It noted that its goal is to enhance Nigeria’s digital transformation and strengthen its position as a leader in technological advancement.
