The Bitcoin community is abuzz with news of the movement of coins mined less than a month after Satoshi Nakamoto's genesis block was created. Several addresses that received the 50 BTC block reward in January 2009, when the network difficulty was just 1, have been activated.
These coins were mined at the very inception of Bitcoin, when mining was performed using ordinary CPUs. The current network difficulty exceeds 90 trillion, highlighting the tremendous growth of the ecosystem over the past 15 years.
The movement of these early coins is a rare event and raises many questions about who controls these funds and why they have been moved now.
