Schiff, a well-known financial commentator and longtime Bitcoin detractor, voiced his pessimism on social media, questioning Bitcoin’s comparison to traditional precious metals like gold and silver.
According to CoinGecko, Bitcoin is currently <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">trading</a> at $58,592, teetering just above the threshold Schiff has set for his prediction. In his latest post, Schiff dismissed Bitcoin’s often-cited comparison to gold, asserting that the cryptocurrency does not even match the value of silver, which is traditionally seen as a less expensive alternative to gold. “Not only is Bitcoin not digital gold, it’s not even digital silver,” he <a href="https://x.com/PeterSchiff/status/1835457511324885228" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">stated</a>, highlighting his skepticism about the digital asset’s long-term worth.
Silver has been on the rise, currently priced above $31 per ounce and aiming to surpass its 2024 peak of $32.5, which it reached in May. Gold, similarly, has experienced a surge, recently hitting a record high of $2,586 per ounce. This climb in precious metal prices coincides with Bitcoin’s decline, further supporting Schiff’s narrative of Bitcoin’s inability to compete with these traditional assets.

Market sentiment surrounding Bitcoin has shifted towards fear as the cryptocurrency struggles to reclaim its former highs. The “Fear and Greed Index,” which measures market sentiment, has <a href="https://alternative.me/crypto/fear-and-greed-index/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">dipped</a> into the “fear” zone, with a current reading of 39 out of 100. This marks a significant decline from just a day ago when Bitcoin sentiment was neutral, as bulls had temporarily regained some control.
The looming Federal Reserve interest rate decision is also contributing to the market’s uncertainty. As investors anticipate potential rate cuts, both gold and silver have seen an uptick, further weakening Bitcoin’s position.
