<p>US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) chairman Jay Clayton has declared that the approval of a spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) is only a matter of time. Speaking at the Consensus Invest conference, Clayton stated that it was clear that Bitcoin was not a security. He also noted that retail investors were hungry for access to the cryptocurrency and that some of the most respected financial institutions were keen to offer it to the public. The development could have serious implications for the wider adoption of the cryptocurrency given the potential exposure for investors who may steer clear of it due to the risks associated with unregulated exchanges.</p>
