An exploit that saw thousands of Solana addresses suddenly drained has been linked to Slope.

The protocol says developers, ecosystem teams and security auditors have been involved in a detailed investigation.

It appears that private key information "was inadvertently transmitted to an application monitoring service."

Solana went on to stress that there is no evidence that its protocol or its cryptography were compromised.

Estimates suggest 9,000 wallets were affected by this exploit — with millions of dollars taken.

In an official statement, Slope confirmed that a "cohort" of wallets were compromised in the breach — and while it has some early theories concerning what happened, nothing's firm yet.

"We feel the community's pain, and we were not immune. Many of our own staff and founders' wallets were drained."

All Slope users are now being urged to create a new and unique seed phrase wallet, and transfer all assets to this new wallet.

Those using hardware wallets have been assured that their keys have not been compromised. The Slope team added:

"We are still actively diagnosing, and are committed to publishing a full post mortem, earning back your trust, and making this as right as we can."
