The highest bidder for Andy Murray's NFT will be able to play tennis with him on a court at Wimbledon.
Beeple — the artist who broke records when his non-fungible token sold for $69.3 million at a Christie’s auction — has launched a new platform that is “curating and releasing NFTs of some of the most celebrated moments in music, fashion, sports and politics.”
WENEW has already attracted a number of notable partnerships, including with TIME, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.
Single and multiple-edition NFTs are going to be offered, meaning that collectors of all budgets will be able to find crypto collectibles at a price point that suits them. Investors will also receive a physical artifact that they can store in their homes or offices — and some sales will come complete with a once-in-a-lifetime experience such as dinner with a renowned artist, or a one-on-one game with an all-star athlete.
An Exciting Release
WENEW’s first release is going to be made on July 2, and will commemorate British tennis star Andy Murray’s historic win at Wimbledon in 2013. Murray’s match-winning point is going to be tokenized — and the highest bidder will also get a chance to play tennis with the star at the famed tennis venue, a VIP behind-the-scenes tour, and two tickets to Centre Court for the men’s finals next year. Murray explained:
“The Wimbledon final in 2013 was such a big moment in my life. It was amazing to be able to share it with the British public, after so long without a male singles winner. I decided to work with WENEW and Wimbledon to turn this moment into an NFT so that fans can share in that memorable day. Working with the platform made sense given their focus on legacy. It’s a new and exciting space and one I am looking forward to being involved in.”
Additional NFTs from Murray’s career are available in larger releases of 20, 50, 100 and 500 NFTs and start from $49 in price.
Beeple, whose real name is Mike Winkelmann, says NFTs “represent a new paradigm,” adding:
“They give people a way to meaningfully engage with the memories and moments that matter to them — maybe even inspired them or shaped who they are in some way.”
