After dropping endless hints in recent days, adidas has revealed new details about its foray into the metaverse.

The sportswear brand has entered into a partnership with Bored Ape Yacht Club, PUNKS Comic and gmoney NFT. Its developers said:

"When you believe impossible is nothing, you end up in some strange, new places … This fall, adidas, known for celebrating ideas at the bleeding edge of originality, is settling in at the frontier of creativity: the metaverse. A realm being built in parallel to ours by younger people from overlooked locations with updated values."

Adidas went on to explain that its goal is to "see every one of its inhabitants thrive."

The brand describes the metaverse as a place "where anyone can express their most original ideas and be their most authentic selves, in whatever form that may take." Better still, the blockchain means these pioneers "can own a piece of what they create."

There's clearly palpable excitement about what these virtual landscapes can offer — with adidas declaring that there's a "world of limitless possibilities" out there.

Going Virtual

In a video posted on Twitter, three characters are seen flying into Earth — one from each of the three projects the company has teamed up with — and all of them are kitted out in adidas gear. They then land on a neon-lit version of the company's logo in a mountainous landscape.

Further details about what the metaverse will bring to users is set to be revealed through the adidas CONFIRMED app — with the company promising "you don't want to miss it."

Despite this new article, we still have more questions than answers. Adidas also recently teased a partnership with Coinbase, but we don't know what this new collaboration will entail.

Nike has also plunged headfirst into the metaverse with the creation of NIKELAND on Roblox — giving the brand's fans a chance "to connect, create, share experiences and compete."

A bespoke world has been created that offers a virtual version of the company's headquarters — and visitors can make use of the accelerometers in their mobile devices "to transfer offline movement to online play," moving their bodies and body in real life to "pull off cool in-game moves like long jumps or speed runs."
