Bitcoin hits $45,000 as inflation surges 📈

Bitcoin notched up its eighth consecutive day of gains on Thursday — buoyed by the release of dire inflation figures in the U.S. The Consumer Price Index raced to 7.5% in January, accelerating at their fastest pace since 1982. Estimates suggest the surge is costing the typical American household an extra $250 a month. BTC managed to break through $45,000 for the first time in over a month — capping off a seven-day increase of 23% as the crypto markets recover from a torrid January.

Man Utd and Tezos sign multi-year deal ⚽️

Tezos has entered into a multi-year partnership with Manchester United. The deal means that the blockchain project's logo will be emblazoned on the legendary football team's training kit. In an announcement, Man Utd described Tezos as "one of the world's most advanced and sustainable blockchains." It's hoped that the collaboration will introduce football devotees to Web3. In other news, Crypto.com has inked a nine-year deal to become the official partner of the Miami Grand Prix.

Ransomware payments are getting bigger 💰

Ransomware payments are getting bigger — with victims paying an average of $118,000 in 2021. Chainalysis, which performed the research, says this is a big rise on the $88,000 recorded in 2020. Explaining the trend, the blockchain intelligence firm said: "One reason for the increase in ransom sizes is ransomware attackers’ focus on carrying out highly targeted attacks against large organizations." The Conti group was the ransomware strain that generated the most revenue.

Robinhood plots crypto-first strategy 🚀

Robinhood has revealed that it's planning to go global with a "crypto-first strategy." That's according to the trading platform's chief brokerage officer Steve Quirk, who has recently jumped ship from TD Ameritrade. All of this comes as Robinhood explores new ways to expand the number of cryptocurrencies it supports — with one of its primary concerns ensuring that this growth is achieved without annoying regulators. At present, seven coins are offered to users.
