Meta Launches Horizon Worlds, Gets Ridiculed by Crypto and Tech Twitter

Meta's launch of Horizon Worlds, part of its metaverse project, did not go entirely according to plan, as a screenshot published from the platform was ridiculed by the crypto and tech Twitter community. The VR selfie shows Zuckerberg in front of the Eiffel Tower but sports graphics that look at least 20 years late. Social media was rife with jokes and befuddled as to how Zuckerberg could decide to flaunt such poor graphics. Horizon Worlds launched in France and Spain. It is already live in the U.S., UK and Canada.

ECB Releases New Crypto Asset Update, Bangs the Drum for CBDCs

The ECB continues to move against unregulated crypto. Its latest statement calls for more steps to harmonize rules for crypto assets across the eurozone countries. The ECB also published its second working paper in short succession that argues for the introduction of a CBDC. Though more research into privacy issues is warranted, the ECB considers a CBDC "the only solution to guarantee a smooth continuation of the current monetary system."

Coinbase token listings may have been front run in 10% to 25% of cases, according to a yet-to-be-peer-reviewed study. It followed the exposure of a former product manager-turned-insider trader a few weeks ago. The Coinbase stock also slumped on news that SEC investigations will move forward regarding the possible sale of unregistered securities.

According to the Dutch Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD), Tornado Cash code may be punishable by law. The agency said as much in a statement made to the DeFi education fund. It refused to give more information about the ongoing case against Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev. It did, however, confirm that the investigation against him was independent of U.S. authorities, which had sanctioned Tornado Cash for its properties to facilitate money laundering.

Genesis CEO Steps Down, 20% of Workforce Slashed

Genesis CEO Michael Moro is stepping down, as his company is reducing the workforce by 20%. The cut follows losses incurred from the 3AC collapse fallout. Genesis has filed a $1.2 billion claim against the collapsed hedge fund. The company follows in the footsteps of OpenSea and Coinbase, which have both previously slashed its workforce over fears of a prolonged "crypto winter."
