Check the Weather With Your Crypto Oracle
This week, oracle network Chainlink’s partnership with Accuweather went live — now, when you see if it’s raining, you may be able to check that on the blockchain.

The partnership, originally announced back in August 2021, means that AccuWeather will have a node on Chainlink’s oracle network, making their weather forecasts available to blockchain-based applications.

Some options for using AccuWeather data include weather prediction markets, hedging markets and virtual umbrellas (kidding). However, having weather data for blockchain-based games could help the games add real-time weather as a characteristic of gameplay, for example.

The AccuWeather API will provide data on temperature, rainfall, wind speed and natural disasters.

Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network with the goal of providing a constant stream of information to smart contracts across various blockchains. While Chainlink does not have a native blockchain, it fulfills its oracle purpose by integrating with many different blockchains simultaneously in order to pass on its data.
