Odell Beckham Jr has become the latest NFL star to announce that he's going to get paid in Bitcoin.

The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver has entered into a partnership with Cash App that'll mean his $4.25 million salary is converted into the digital asset.
To celebrate the new partnership, Beckham Jr has also launched a $1 million BTC giveaway on Twitter.

For a chance to win a share of the crypto, users need to reply to his post with their $cashtag and the hashtag #OBJBTC.

Beckham Jr's foray into Bitcoin comes hot on the heels of Aaron Rodgers revealing that he plans to convert a portion of his salary into the cryptocurrency. He also launched a $1 million giveaway.

NFL legend Tom Brady is also a crypto enthusiast, and has developed strong ties with the FTX exchange in recent months — even appearing in some of their ads.

Payment in Bitcoin: A Good Idea?

The notion of getting salaries in Bitcoin has proven especially divisive — not least because of how volatile the cryptocurrency is.

Case in point: if a $3,000 monthly paycheck had been denominated in BTC at the start of this month, it would have rallied to $3,400 a week later… before crashing all the way down to $2,790.

This would likely be incredibly stressful for everyday consumers who have mortgages to pay and groceries to buy… but you could argue that sports stars on multimillion-dollar salaries will be able to take the hit.
