Twitter has caused a splash by unexpectedly releasing 140 NFTs.

The social network has a long affinity with the number 140, not least because it was the character limit that was originally in force on the micro-blogging site.

While some of the NFTs paid tribute to Jack Dorsey’s first-ever tweet on the platform, others showed how Twitter’s logo has evolved through the years.

Larry, the world-renowned bird who serves as Twitter mascot, was given a furry makeover — along with the caption: “Like but don’t touch.”

Another Milestone for NFTs

It’s another big moment as NFTs push forward in their quest for mass adoption — and Dorsey is known for being a crypto enthusiast.

The Twitter CEO has been vocal about his passion for Bitcoin. Even though NFTs tend to be based on the Ethereum blockchain, it seems that this giveaway isn’t a sign that he is going to be giving the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency a try anytime soon.

After one user suggested that it is “only a matter of time” before Dorsey invests in ETH, the tech entrepreneur simply replied:

“No.”

In other NFT news, a token representing the original source code for the World Wide Web has sold for a staggering $5.4 million at auction.

The rare asset was created by the World Wide Web’s inventor, Tim Berners-Lee. It includes an animation boasting 9,555 lines of code that was written in the 1990s, along with a digitized letter where he reflects on his achievement.
