Tabla de contenidos

Moonriver is an Ethereum-compatible, smart contract parachain on the Kusama network, built using Substrate and almost the same codebase by the same team behind Polkadot. It was intended to be an experimental blockchain platform designed to provide an interoperable and scalable framework for developers.

Moonriver has been created to provide Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) implementation, allowing smart contracts that are based on Ethereum to be migrated into the Kusama environment. This allows Ethereum-based decentralized applications (DAPps) to be redeployed on Moonriver.
Moonriver is a “sister” network to Moonbeam on Polkadot, acting as a permanently incentivized canary network. This means that code is shipped on Moonriver first and tested under real economic conditions, and once proven, it will be shipped on Moonbeam. The network currently has a total value locked (TVL) of $67M, at the time of writing.

In this article, we’ll go over everything you need to know to integrate the Moonriver parachain to your MetaMask wallet. Let’s dive in.

Setting Up MetaMask

You’ll first need to set-up your MetaMask wallet and add it as an extension on your web browser such as Google Chrome or Brave.

To do that, you can download the wallet from the official website. Then set up your MetaMask wallet if you are a new user, or import your existing wallet if you already have one.
