Bored Ape Yacht Club's Discord server has been hacked.

A malicious actor managed to make their way into the platform, which is meant to be exclusively available to those who own Bored Apes and Mutant Apes.

When inside, they posted a phishing link and successfully stole a Mutant Ape NFT from an unsuspecting user.

In an early morning tweet on Friday, the official Bored Ape Yacht Club Twitter account said:

"A webhook in our Discord was briefly compromised. We caught it immediately but please know: we are not doing any April Fools stealth mints / airdrops etc. Other Discords are also being attacked right now."

The value of ApeCoin — a token that was recently airdropped to Bored Ape owners — has plunged over the past 24 hours, and is down 8% at the time of writing.

NFT Theft a Growing Problem

In other developments, dozens of non-fungible tokens — including five Bored Apes — have been stolen after a number of verified Twitter profiles were targeted in a sophisticated phishing hack.

According to The Block, the blockchain intelligence firm Elliptic believes that crypto collectibles worth $900,000 were stolen.

Scammers hijacked a number of high-profile Twitter accounts and posted tweets that directed unsuspecting users to a bogus "token airdrop site" for ApeCoin.

One victim claimed that they lost two NFTs — despite the fact that they had ignored prompts from the website urging them to connect their wallet.

According to AnChain.AI, the scam has generated proceeds of at least 46 ETH — worth more than $150,000 at current market rates.
