If you’re an altcoin account tweeting Elon Musk, you better be prepared for a rather brutal reply.

On Sunday, the account @ShibaInuHodler sent a tweet to the Tesla CEO and über billionaire, writing:

Musk’s reply was ruthless to say the least. An hour later, he replied simply:

Fans of other joke cryptocurrencies — including FLOKI — also decided to try their hand, but Musk wasn’t having any of this either. He wrote:

“Out of curiosity, I acquired some ascii hash strings called ‘Bitcoin, Ethereum & Doge’. That’s it. As I’ve said before, don’t bet the farm on crypto! True value is building products & providing services to your fellow human beings, not money in any form.”

Disastrous for SHIBA INU?

Musk’s withering putdown meant SHIBA INU had its tail between its legs during Sunday’s trading — retreating sharply from all-time highs set earlier in the day.

SHIB had managed to reach a record price of $0.00004422, but later suffered a peak-to-trough fall of $0.00003423 — down by 22.6%. Despite all this doom and gloom, the coin has still managed to gain 437% since the start of this month.
Following in the footsteps of Dogecoin, which itself had an unlikely rags-to-riches surge earlier this year, SHIB has risen through the rankings over the past few weeks. CoinMarketCap data suggests that it’s now the 13th-biggest cryptocurrency in the world.

Touted as an Ethereum-based alternative to DOGE, Coinbase made SHIBA INU available to trade back in September.

Musk’s endorsement has helped DOGE become one of the best performers over the past 24 hours. It’s up 7.5% at the time of writing, hitting $0.2652.

It also helps that he sent a tongue-in-cheek correction to an UberFacts tweet that claimed he’s predicted to become the world’s first trillionaire thanks to SpaceX. Musk mischievously added: “*in Dogecoin.”

Crypto influencer David Gokhstein was among those trying to shrug off Musk’s rejection of SHIBA INU, writing:
