Amateur rapper Heather Morgan has a new job — despite the fact she's currently awaiting trial on suspicion of attempting to launder Bitcoin worth billions of dollars.
According to Bloomberg News, she has been hired by an unnamed tech company that doesn't mind the fact she's under 24-hour house arrest.
Some slight modifications have now been made to the conditions of this house arrest, meaning she'll be able to work at the firm's New York offices three days a week.
Morgan will now serve as a "growth marketing and business development specialist," and the name of her new employer is being kept secret to protect her.
Her lawyer claimed this was because she has been "subject to disparaging comments and harassment on social media as a result of the intense media coverage of this case."
Last summer, Morgan was given permission to "engage in legitimate employment and receive income of greater than $10,000 a month" — quite a substantial salary.
The fact quite a lot of time since then suggests she hasn't been flush with job offers, despite touting her skills on social media.
Morgan and her husband Ilya Lichtenstein are accused of trying to launder $4.5 billion worth of Bitcoin that was stolen in an audacious hack of Bitfinex back in 2016.
They were charged in February last year, and at the time, it was the largest financial seizure ever made by the U.S. government. If convicted, the pair could face a 20-year jail sentence.
Lichtenstein remains in custody amid concerns that he is a flight risk — and prosecutors fear he has the skills and funds required to flee the U.S. ahead of any court appearance.
As news of their arrest emerged, Morgan ended up going viral for her amateur rap videos on YouTube, where she described herself as the "Crocodile of Wall Street."
