Tezos has entered into a multi-year partnership with Manchester United.

The deal means that the blockchain project's logo will be emblazoned on the legendary football team's training kit.

In an announcement, Man Utd described Tezos as "one of the world's most advanced and sustainable blockchains," adding:

"Tezos is at the forefront of the global blockchain revolution which allows for fast, secure and efficient digital interactions without the need for intermediaries."

It's hoped that the collaboration will introduce football devotees to the world of Web3 — and the brand-new kit will be worn this weekend as the titans of Old Trafford prepare to take on Southampton.

Such big-name partnerships regularly attract scrutiny, with critics claiming that many blockchains contribute to climate change. But Manchester United says that Tezos' Proof-of-Stake network is energy efficient and operates "in a cleaner and more environmentally friendly way than other blockchains." The club added:

"Tezos is at the forefront of the global blockchain revolution which allows for fast, secure and efficient digital interactions without the need for intermediaries."

Man Utd also championed how Tezos can "seamlessly evolve, with regular updates designed and approved by its global community of users and developers."

'Hugely Exciting'

Crypto projects have been jumping on opportunities to sponsor sports teams, events and arenas recently — spending countless millions of dollars for the privilege of being associated with some of the world's biggest brands. It's also beneficial for clubs who get a cash injection after their revenues were battered during the coronavirus pandemic. Man Utd executive Victoria Timpson said:

"This is a hugely exciting partnership for Manchester United because it aligns us with one of the most advanced, reliable and sustainable blockchains in an area of technology which promises to truly revolutionize the way that everyone, including the club and our fans, can interact."

Tezos' head of adoption and business development, Edward Adlard, also expressed hope that the collaboration "will allow Manchester United to use blockchain and Web3 to transform fan, player, team and partner engagement." He added:

"The decision by the world’s greatest football club to select Tezos as its blockchain of choice is further validation that thoughtful design paired with strong security, low gas fees, and community-led innovation are the essential factors driving the next wave of adoption in the new digital revolution."

In other news, Crypto.com has inked a nine-year deal to become the official partner of the Miami Grand Prix — cementing its presence in one of America's most crypto-friendly cities.

The trading platform's logo will appear on the podium and the trophies handed to winners, too.

It comes a few months after the world-famous Staples Center in Los Angeles was rebranded as the Crypto.com Arena.
