Rammstein Soloist Till Lindemann Accused of Illegal NFT Sales of Hermitage Museum Imags

Till Lindemann, the leader of the German band Rammstein, has been called out by the St. Petersburg Hermitage for including photos from the museum in his NFT sale.

In spring, the Rammstein soloist recorded a cover video for the song “Favorite City” in the interiors of the State Hermitage Museum in Russia. Amid the non-fungible token (NFT) mania, the German musician is now illegally selling digital items with images of the museum, the Hermitage disclosed on its Telegram channel on Friday, Aug. 13.

They wrote:

"The use of images of objects from the collection and interiors of the museum in the collection of tokens, also with the indication "Hermitage Edition," was not and could not be agreed with the museum."
Earlier this week, Lindemann in partnership with “twelve x twelve” digital brokers released a series of NFTs that included images taken during the filming at the Hermitage. The NFT collection includes 299 art pieces of the German musician in the Russian museum, each priced at €299. There are also 99 copies of visual art pieces of Lindemann in the museum, going for €999 per piece. 20 special edition digital art pieces at the same location are priced at €5,000, and most notably, a ten lot of a unique video valued at €100,000 and a chance to have a dinner with the soloist in Moscow, Russia.

Meanwhile, on the part of the museum, the Hermitage claims that its representatives had earlier warned Lindemann about violating its licensing policy, a warning that the singer failed to respond to.

Expressing its regret over Lindemann actions, the museum disclosed that:

“Mr. Lindemann personally signed an agreement with the Hermitage, which clearly states permission to use images of the Hermitage and all prepared materials exclusively in a music video […] Now the Hermitage — probably one of the first museums in the world — is faced with the unfair use of his name and works in the field of NFTs.”

As of press time, it is still unclear whether the Hermitage will be taking any legal action against the singer.
