A manhunt is taking place across Hong Kong after a gang of thieves stole 15 BTC from a crypto trader.
According to the South China Morning Post, criminals lured the victim online and picked him up in a car outside a hotel — giving him $387,000 in cash in exchange for the Bitcoin stash.
But as the seller counted his money, the robbers drove off with him inside the car, dumping him on a hillside about six kilometers away.
As well as keeping hold of the BTC, which was presumably stored on a hardware wallet, the gang took back the cash they had given him — as well as two of his mobile phones.
The 37-year-old victim later sought help from the police in a nearby housing estate.
Instances of robbery are relatively rare in Hong Kong, and just 242 incidents were reported in the first 10 months of 2020.
Detectives are said to be looking for six robbers, who are not of Chinese ethnicity and are about 30 years old.
