Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says he believes Bitcoin has bottomed in the current cycle and expects it to trend higher over the next 1–2 years toward $400K by 2030.

Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said on Sept. 10 that he believes Bitcoin (BTC) has reached its cycle low and will trend higher over the next one to two years.

Speaking to CNBC Squawk Box Asia, Armstrong called a BTC price target of $400,000 by 2030 a "reasonable target," even as the asset traded at around $77,000 to $78,000 at the time of his comments.

Armstrong pointed to Bitcoin's historically observed four-year cycle as the basis for his view. He said the current down period has lasted approximately one year, which he described as consistent with past cycle patterns. "I personally believe that the bottom is in on Bitcoin in this most recent cycle," he told CNBC, citing the asset's rise from around $60,000.

What the Data Says About Selling Pressure

On-chain research firm Glassnode published a note on Sept. 9 stating that Bitcoin had gained 23% over 21 trading sessions through that date. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 were broadly flat over the same period. Glassnode also found that selling pressure had eased as BTC approached a resistance band between $83,000 and $86,000, with its seven-day Sell-Side Risk Ratio at seven basis points per day, less than half the 16 basis points recorded at the August peak.
Armstrong also highlighted growth in Coinbase's broader ecosystem. He said stablecoin payments on Base have increased 700% year-over-year. He cited projections for the stablecoin market to reach $3 trillion by 2030 and pointed to payments, tokenization, prediction markets, and agentic finance as four key areas for Coinbase heading into 2027.

Reaching $400,000 would represent a roughly fivefold increase from current levels over just over three years. BTC traded approximately 38% below its all-time high of around $126,000 at the time of Armstrong's comments. The current downturn has coincided with a difficult period for Coinbase, which cut 14% of its staff and missed Q2 2026 earnings as trading activity slowed.

Armstrong Expects Regulatory Clarity Within a Month

Armstrong told CNBC that the US Senate's vote on the CLARITY Act, scheduled for Sept. 15, is likely to pass based on his conversations in Washington. He said law enforcement groups, banks, and crypto companies are broadly supportive. The remaining sticking point involves ethics rules around the president's family's crypto ventures, with talks still ongoing between the White House and Democrats at the time of his interview.

Armstrong said a failure of the CLARITY Act would not significantly delay regulatory clarity, because the SEC and CFTC have indicated they are prepared to publish rulemaking and innovation exemptions under existing authority regardless of the vote's outcome. He expects that clarity to arrive within a month either way. He cited last year's GENIUS Act as a precedent, noting that more than 150 large companies integrated stablecoins in the three months following its passage. If the CLARITY Act passes, it would also open the door to tokenized equities and perpetual futures for US customers, Armstrong said.
