Bitcoin and Ethereum News

Citigroup has raised its 12-month price forecasts for Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), pointing to stronger trading activity, a more supportive macro environment, and the return of exchange-traded fund inflows.

The bank lifted its Bitcoin target to $113,000 from $82,000. Its Ether forecast climbed to $3,028 from $2,240. Both changes appeared in a note dated Sept. 30.

Citi Expects Inflows To Pick Up Gradually

Citi said it expects crypto inflows to return at a slower but steadier pace. The bank pointed to financial advisers and brokerages gradually raising their Bitcoin allocations as the main driver.

The brokerage also forecast $5 billion in inflows over the next 12 months. That figure reflects the bank's expectation of a measured recovery rather than a sudden surge.

The forecast arrives after a setback in Washington. The US Senate failed to advance the CLARITY Act on Sept. 15, a bill meant to create a regulatory framework for digital assets. The failed vote marked a setback for the broader industry.

Despite that setback, Citi noted some offsetting developments. The bank said that while the bill's failure narrowed the path to a market-structure law, it also pushed the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to issue rule announcements that eased negative sentiment.

Bitcoin and Ethereum Have Rallied for Months

BTC and ETH have both climbed sharply over the past three months. BTC gained nearly 40%, and ETH rose about 68%. Those gains have narrowed BTC’s year-to-date loss to roughly 4% and ETH’s to about 9%.

Bitcoin had lagged behind broader risk assets for several months before this rebound. Since its July lows, the token has risen 40%.

A softer US dollar played a role in that shift. The move followed the US Treasury's recent decision to buy back longer-dated bonds, a step that revived momentum across crypto markets.

The scale of the rally marks a sharp divergence from Bitcoin's weaker stretch earlier in the year.

Citi's revised targets place BTC and ETH well above current trading levels, underscoring the bank's expectation that institutional demand will keep building over the next year.
